The magazine’s summer series « 8:30 p.m. on Saturday » offers an unprecedented collection of portraits, beautiful stories, encounters and travels presented by Laurent Delahousse. For this first issue of the season, head to Ariège with the transhumance of Mérens horses.
« 8:30 p.m. on Saturday » is putting on the colors of summer with its new collection « L’été de 8:30 p.m. ». For this new issue, when the time has come for the big departures on vacation, the magazine takes you on a rather special transhumance: that of the Mérens, small mountain horses also called Ariège ponies. This is a French breed originating from the Ariège Pyrenees.
The breeder who whispers in the horse’s ear
« 20h30 » followed the three-day journey of a herd of 25 animals in the heart of Ariège. Three days of travel with horses and men through sumptuous landscapes, braving storms and fatigue to finally taste life in freedom, until next autumn.
Jean-Louis Savignol, organic breeder from the Pyrenees, has brought tradition up to date. Since 2000, he has perpetuated the tradition of breeding Mérens horses with old bloodlines known as Baydoux. He considers his animals a bit like his family.
A report by Pierre Millet-Bellando, Marc de Langenhagen and Sarah Jung.
