Lagricultural research in Belgium has a long history. 140 years ago, the national institute for agricultural research was founded in Gembloux in Wallonia, next to the KULeuven Agricultural Institute. Today, the Gembloux Institute is part of the University of Liège. An agricultural college was founded in Ghent only after the First World War, which would later be renamed a faculty.
