Spring 2020 is already a very good season for beekeepers. In Saône-et-Loire, bees are in full production. This year, the harvest promises to be exceptional. “For the bees, we are in a very good situation for two reasons. First in terms of the weather, since we had summer sunshine in spring. Then, because the spring flowering was very abundant”, explains Yves Robert, beekeeper.
As a result, the volumes of honey produced are increasing. A breath of fresh air for the more than 2,000 French producers after a catastrophic 2019 season due to a cold and wet spring. Beekeepers note that confinement has a positive impact on bees and therefore on honey. The flowers are in particular much more abundant, because the municipalities no longer mow the roadsides or roundabouts. The only difficulty for the sector: sales which are slowing down in a market hit hard by the health crisis.
