From a meeting with ‘the most beautiful child in Haarlem’ on your lap, to voting with a cat in the arms or a glass of white wine in your hand. The adoption of the Haarlem municipal budget has never had such a personal character as this year.
At 5 pm almost all council members are ready in their offices, living rooms or even from a small house in the Achterhoek. In alphabetical order, Mayor Jos Wienen records the names of the councilors. Only after he has heard their voices and seen their faces can he officially confirm their presence at the meeting. The virtually empty council chamber in which the mayor himself sits contrasts sharply with the domestic settings of the other ‘attendees’. Tiffany lamps, colorful paintings, pets and beautiful views of the city: there is plenty to see for the attentive viewer.
