The Municipal Animal Protection services of the Alicante City Council have rescued eleven dogs of two underground containers of the Plaza de América and Devesa Street, located alive by personnel of the night shift of waste collection. The animals, however, present «Poor physical condition, thinness and dirt».
As reported by the session in a statement, the discovery was made early in the morning from Monday to Tuesday in two underground containers of Plaza de América and Calle Devesa.
Subsequently, they were referred to the Protectora Municipal de Alicante, where they have been evaluated by the center’s veterinarian and are undergoing sanitary treatments.
In order to obtain information that may be relevant in the investigation, the Local Police have requested citizen collaboration to locate and identify the person who has been able to carry out this act, typified as crime in the Criminal Code. That is why, anyone who can provide any data or evidence can go directly to the Local Police, 112 or the Animal Protection Department of the Department of Health of the City of Alicante.
The Councilor for Animal Health and Protection, Julia Llopis, has reported that dogs can be adopted and has called on citizens to « notify the Local Police or 112 and report when they suspect or have indications that animals are being mistreated for an investigation to begin. »
«Complaints are the first step in order to detect timely situations of animal abuse, which ultimately lead to situations like the one that occurred and that constitute a crime in themselves, ”he added.
