« A real awareness-raising process » applauds the French equestrian federation – Insurance for Pets

The Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin and that of Agriculture Julien Denormandie are moving to the Oise on Monday after the mutilation of around thirty horses or ponies since the beginning of the year. Serge Lecomte, president of the French Equestrian Federation, welcomes the “efforts” to raise awareness.

« Everyone is very worried about this delirium of cruelty », reacted Monday on franceinfo Serge Lecomte, president of the French Equestrian Federation. Since the beginning of the year, around thirty horses or ponies have been mutilated in France. Alerted by the growing number of assaults this summer, the Interior Ministers Gerald Darmanin and Agriculture Julien Denormandie are moving Monday, September 7 in Oise, a department where several cases of equine mutilation have been reported.

« We are all terrified. Everyone is very worried about this delirium of cruelty », reacted Serge Lecomte. Acts of « cruelty » which come from « disturbed spirits », according to him. « It’s not recent. We did some research in the past. Cruelty to animals is not something we are discovering today. », he explained.

In all cases, an ear of the animal is cut out, taken as a trophy. Is it superstitions, fetishism, a satanic or sectarian ritual? Since last week, the Interministerial Mission against sectarian aberrations (Miviludes) has been participating in the investigation led by the national gendarmerie. « The facts are too spread over the whole territory for it to be a single person or a single team », he assures.

The president of the French equestrian federation is delighted with the trip of the two ministers: « This is a first. That two ministers come to a meeting with regard to cruelty to animals is a real step to raise awareness of both the public and the police so that they can quickly find a solution Bravo to the efforts being made in this direction « , he greeted.

Senior Inspector Expertise Animal By-products – Insurance for Pets

Where will you end up?

Within the field of animal by-products, you and four direct colleagues are responsible for setting up, having executed and evaluating projects. The aim of these projects is to monitor and promote compliance by companies within the animal by-products sector in order to adequately control risks to humans, animals and nature. “The field of work in this domain is so broad that the work is never boring or monotonous…”. said Steven Danneel, former Senior Advisor Animal Byproducts at the NVWA.

What are you going to do?

You translate legal and regulatory provisions into workable monitoring protocols and monitoring methods, so that the inspectors in the field can effectively and efficiently supervise companies that handle animal by-products. These can be companies that use cadavers to produce biodiesel, for example, but also companies that use animal by-products as a raw material for cosmetics or pharmaceuticals.

Depending on the inspection results, the wishes of our client LNV and developments in Europe, you set up projects. You can deduce from inspection results of the previous year where there are risks to public and animal health in the chain and where new risks arise. You devise innovative and efficient supervision methods and tools. It is up to you to determine which tool best achieves its goal in practice. You also confront the sector with generic results, you talk about working methods and new production flows. You stimulate the sector to continue to operate within the frameworks of the applicable laws and regulations. When certain working methods turn out not to be workable in practice, you look for solutions.

Our client also gives direction to our field of work. When risks are identified or expected, you will initiate and implement specific projects to measure and, if necessary, promote compliance.

Finally, legislative proposals are being made from Europe. This happens, for example, when new industries emerge, such as the breeding of insects as a feedstock for pet food or when our surveillance signals require legislative changes. As a Senior Advisor you are closely involved in this. Sometimes you represent the Netherlands during European meetings in Brussels. Prior to this, you agree within the team, the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality and the sector which conditions we set for legislative proposals.

Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA)

The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA), as part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, stands for the safety of food and consumer products, animal welfare and nature. We strive to be an employer that every employee, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin and work disability, wants to work for. Working on social issues in diverse teams makes us more effective, more innovative and the work more fun.

Our mission is to increase food and product safety, plant health and animal welfare, through high compliance with (inter) national laws and regulations and optimal risk management.

It seems so obvious that we can buy food and other products in the Netherlands in the confidence that they are safe for us. We can rely on this, because there are laws and regulations that companies must adhere to and that ensure that they do not harm animal welfare and nature. That goes well very often, but not always. That is why it is important that we stand together for that safety. With entrepreneurs who comply with the laws and regulations. With consumers, who are also careful themselves. And as the NVWA, because we monitor and promote compliance by companies and because we monitor animal and plant health. With the aim of adequately controlling possible risks to people, animals and nature.

Our field of activity is broad. That is why we look carefully at where the greatest risks lie. So that we can inform consumers and others in a timely manner if necessary. And so that we can work where our supervision is most needed. With our inspections and criminal investigations and with good services and communication, we stimulate entrepreneurs to comply with the rules. We assume trust. Companies that have their affairs in order don’t notice much of us. But we take firm action against entrepreneurs who are not so careful.

We also carry out inspections to enable import and export. Companies that comply with the legal provisions can safely market their products and animals. Because with proper compliance with the laws and regulations, they strengthen confidence in their own products as well as in the trading position of the Netherlands.

The NVWA consists of 4 directorates, Enforcement, Inspection, Strategy and Internal Organization.

Does a dog and owner have to go for a walk? – Insurance for Pets

Stricter requirements for dog owners and breeders

If you have a dog, you should go outside with him twice a day for a total of at least one hour. In addition, tethering should be prohibited. Exceptions are planned for dogs that are used as work animals.

Dr. Ronald Lindner
Animal behavior therapist Dr. Ronald Lindner advises all pet owners under the heading « fiffi & co. On the go » every Monday at MDR at 4 am. He is a course leader at the Institute for Dog-Human Relationships in Saxony.

Mr. Lindner, how useful do you think the new rules for dog owners are?

Dr. Ronald Lindner: These are old approaches – repackaged and also by far not sufficient and knowledgeable enough to really avoid animal suffering. My old German teacher would have said: « Well written, but unfortunately missed the topic
– Grade 4!  »

What do you recommend to go out with the dog?

Quality vs. Quantity! The walk and what is experienced should primarily meet the needs of the dog.

Give your four-legged friend enough time for typical dog behavior. He will thank you with a balanced personality. If a dog does not get regular exercise, he suffers and becomes increasingly frustrated, reacts fearfully or aggressively and in the worst case forgets all social behavior.

Could controls be carried out with the introduction of such a set of rules?

Perhaps one or the other dog owner is starting to rethink things by actually extending his daily walk and not just walking « around the block ».

But who should check the requirement – walking at least twice a day for a total of one hour? The veterinary offices are already more than overwhelmed with the implementation of § 11 TschG, according to which people who deal with animals commercially must prove their expertise.

What rules do you think would be necessary?

  1. General ban on keeping kennels and tethering – without exceptions!
  2. The legal introduction of the dog driver license D.O.Q. 2.0, as dog owners have to prove their knowledge in theory and practice.
  3. Real and nationwide standardized implementation of §11 TschG in matters Evidence and verification of the expertise of people who work with dogs commercially. The LMU Munich has created a standardized examination procedure for this purpose, which only needs to be adopted by the federal states and offices nationwide.

What do you recommend dog owners to observe even without a legal basis?

The Institute for Dog-Human Relationships in Saxony has drawn up ten golden rules for this.

We recommend two hours a day free running without a leash outside of your own territory. This brings movement, enables exploration and of course elimination.

2. Always be socially involved

Allow a lot of time with people and, if possible, with another dog in the family and avoid social isolation. Then they are motivated to keep in contact with people and dogs they trust and to adapt their own behavior to the behavior of other social partners.

3. Enable contact with conspecifics

It is recommended to have at least two people in a group and to have free and independent contact with conspecifics every day in order to learn and maintain safe social contact.

A changing environment is beneficial. The holder should be with you whenever possible. Dogs should never be separated from the family unit for longer than stress-free.

5. Enable contact with people

Daily free contact with people outside of the family is recommended in order to communicate.

6. Communicate in a variety of ways

Communicating via multiple channels should also take into account non-verbal elements (facial expressions, gestures and body language).

The mental workload should be achieved by promoting the pronounced learning ability.

Depending on the disposition, breed and line-specific characteristics must be taken into account.

It is important to feed and groom the dog appropriately and to house it appropriately. Pain, suffering and damage must be averted!

10. No positive penalties

Absolutely renounce verbal and physical violence or threats!

Julia Klöckner’s proposal also includes an exhibition ban for dogs that have torture breeding traits. What do you make of it?

Of course, not just an exhibition ban is enough, but breeding bans should be introduced as soon as possible. In dog breeding, the problem of torture breeding comes first and this is by no means a new problem, but has been discussed for over 21 years!

Torture breeding
Pet animals are always subject to fashion trends. For a certain look, for example, the nose is bred to be particularly flat. This is usually associated with breathing problems. Other breeds lead to eye problems or accept hereditary diseases for a certain coat color.

In 1999 there was an expert opinion commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture on the interpretation of §11b TschG. That named exactly the traits affected and the dog breeds most severely affected by torture breeding.

According to the experts, these should have been excluded from breeding immediately. Above all, the French and English bulldogs, pug and co, which are still the most popular breeds today, who suffer from a multitude of torture breeding characteristics for life.

I myself was part of our MDR series « fiffi & co. On the road » at the international dog fair in Leipzig 2017 and was more than shocked about « the breeding offer ».

Why should you take off your shoes before walking through your door? – Insurance for Pets

In many cultures, it is customary to take off your shoes before entering a house. While this tradition may have started by preventing visitors from dragging mud or dirt on floors and carpets, there is a lot of scientific research supporting this practice in order to ward off invisible germs as well.

Taking off your shoes when entering a house helps keep the interior space clean. It could also help keep everyone inside healthier.

What are the benefits of removing my shoes indoors?

The most obvious benefit of a « no shoes inside » policy is that dirt from the outside will not be scattered throughout the house. Can this mean less time spent cleaning and vacuuming floors? Incidentally, it could also mean a longer life for your rugs.

Removing your shoes indoors also reduces the possible transmission of disease-causing bacteria. Infectious bacteria can attach to shoes when you walk outside. In public toilets and other places with high concentrations of pathogens. Pathogens are organisms that cause disease.
The sole and cracks of the shoes are ideal places for bacteria to linger.

Here are some of the bacteria that can cling to the soles of your shoes and spread inside:

1 Escherichia coli (E. coli)

E. coli is one of the most common bacteria found on the soles of shoes. This bacteria can cause intestinal and urinary infections. And while E. coli can be found everywhere, it is more common in rural areas where there is droppings from farm animals and other wildlife where people walk.

2 Clostridium difficile (C. diff)

The bacteria C. diff causes particularly foul-smelling diarrhea and can trigger colitis, an inflammation of the colon. The risk of footwear contamination with C. diff is high, especially in urban areas.

3 Staphylococcus aureus

Staphylococcus aureus (staphylococcus) bacteria are the most dangerous of the different types of Staphylococcus bacteria. Staphylococcus aureus bacteria are most commonly found on the shoes of people working in health care settings and in food services.

4 Pesticides

Pesticides and herbicides used on crops, parks, golf courses and other places can follow you inside on the soles of your shoes. These chemicals are associated with health risks as minor as irritation to the skin or eyes, and as serious as cancer.

Are there any risks of not wearing shoes indoors?

Of course, walking barefoot indoors also carries its share of health risks. Bacteria and fungi can be present in household dust, especially in homes where humidity is a problem and when surfaces are not cleaned regularly.

Having a pet can also help increase the levels of bacteria in the home.

However, not having shoes on or wearing slippers with slick soles indoors can also make you more vulnerable to accidents. Half of the falls were in people who were barefoot or who wore only socks or slippers. To reduce the risk of falls at home, older people should consider wearing sneakers or other sturdy footwear only indoors.

What are the tips for removing shoes indoors?

Here are some tips to make shoe removal a common and easy practice in your home:

– Set up a space for shoes just behind or near the entrance door. Keep shoes tidy with a shoe rack.
– Place a sign just inside your door or on a welcome mat. Include a message such as “Leave your worries (and your shoes) at the door”.
– You just have to ask. Politely ask your guests if they want to take their shoes off.
– Keep slippers or house shoes close to where you store them. This way it will be quick and easy to change them.

VIDEO. The ordeal of animals – Insurance for Pets

The issue of animal welfare concerns more and more French people. Deputies seize it, and a referendum of shared initiative gathered more than 500,000 signatures. NGOs keep denouncing the conditions of breeding or slaughtering animals, with a lot of shocking images. But they also criticize their transport conditions.

Very far from European standards …

Thirty-seven million head of cattle and one billion poultry circulate each year in Europe. The European Commission regularly denounces drifts, especially in the event of strong heat. How is the transport of animals really going? How is it controlled? « Special Envoy » investigated, and what the journalists discovered is sometimes far, very far from European laws, however quite strict in this area …

An investigation by Alexandra Colineau, Julie Ledru and Marie Dubois with First Lines broadcast in « Special Envoy » on September 3, 2020.

Mmm, meat from the printer! (And four other vegan innovations) – Insurance for Pets

The protein revolution? Yes, it exists. In ten years’ time 10 percent of the meat market worldwide will be in the hands of vegetarian or vegan alternatives to meat, according to investment bank Barclays. Unfortunately, this does not alter the fact that the turnover of real meat products is also expected to continue to grow in the coming years.

The main goal of multinationals is to make money, not to make good and fair food

The revolution largely takes place in the lab. There, meat products are simulated as realistically as possible using new techniques, and real meat is even « grown ». Stacy Pyett heads the Proteins for Life research program at Wageningen University & Research (WUR), which researches the functionality of proteins, develops new protein-rich products and analyzes their health effects. The researcher sees that there is a great need to adjust our diet: “In rich countries there is overconsumption of protein, and in poorer countries people generally don’t get enough of it. Our current food system has an enormous ecological footprint and is extremely unfairly distributed. ”

1. Local cultivation

In the « local » category, a burger based on algae and even homegrown quinoa has been on the shelves for two years. There is another promising local plant: duckweed, also known as water lentils.

Ingrid van der Meer (WUR) started her research into the potential of duckweed as food six years ago. The plant grows very fast, requires little valuable agricultural land and you can harvest all year round. The plant needs enough water and sunlight. It is therefore suitable for local cultivation and even ideal for indoor cultivation vertical farming.

One hectare of duckweed produces up to ten times more protein than one hectare of soy. And it is also full of vitamins and minerals. The application to register it as safe for consumption lies with the European food authority EFSA.

According to Pyett, the solutions devised for this ecological footprint and the shortage of protein can roughly be divided into « low-tech » and « high-tech ». She herself is more on the low-tech side. Think, for example, of duckweed, which you encounter in ponds all over the world. « It can be produced locally, grows very quickly, requires few raw materials and agricultural land, and contains a lot of protein. » The development of high-tech imitation meat, on the other hand, costs money, time and raw materials for years. Such a product often requires more energy and water, due to the production of the ingredients, the technology and the distribution.

“Impossible Foods, for example, uses genetically modified yeast for their burgers, which gives the special meat flavor. An intensive and specific process. ” Despite this complexity, these types of products are also needed, in addition to simple solutions such as legumes and duckweed, Pyett thinks. « They almost or completely match the meat, fish or dairy that people are used to, and can persuade so many people to make plant-based choices. »

2. Print steaks

Redefine Meat, an Israeli start-up, developed a technique to 3D print a mix of soybeans and pea protein in layers and simulate the complex meat structure. According to founder Eshchar Ben-Shitrit, the technique is even able to recreate a steak realistically.

The idea is that the printers for this « Alt-Steak » will be placed in restaurants; they can then adjust the recipe themselves. At the end of this year, there will be pilots in restaurants in Israel, France, Germany and Switzerland, after which Redefine Meat wants to bring the machines to the market in early 2021. More companies are developing 3D printers for the kitchen, such as the Spanish NovaMeat, which expects to sell the machines to restaurants in Italy and Spain this year. And ultimately NovaMeat also focuses directly on consumers: the machine should be for sale in the supermarket next year.

Food philosopher Michiel Korthals is also most interested in low-tech solutions. In his book Good Food, he argues that our current food system with its complicated and opaque chains and technological processing means that we are far removed from our food. Imitation meat will not close that « gaping hole » between food and consumer, he says. « With such lab or factory manufactured products, there is still little insight into how it is made and where the ingredients come from. »

Korthals also thinks that, in addition to innovations, there should be a shift in our diet. “People find it normal to eat animal products three times a day. While it is much better for health to eat more vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds. The government can play a role in shifting the norm. For example through taxes and nudging 1

3. Animal-free binder

On packaging of meat substitutes often chicken egg is on the predominantly vegetable ingredients list. Egg is a good and cheap binder, crucial for a solid consistency. According to researchers from the company FUMI Ingredients, which originated at the WUR, 27 billion euros are spent in the world market for proteins. FUMI develops animal-free alternatives from, among other things, yeast (a by-product from beer brewing), micro-algae and fungi, which would result in a CO2 reduction of at least 80 percent.

The philosopher sees another problem: food giants are starting to see a revenue model in the protein transition. Unilever took over De Vegetarian Slager, Sweet Earth Foods is now part of Nestlé and McDonalds and Burger King now also sell veggie burgers. Korthals: “Multinationals hitch a ride on ideas that live in society, but their main goal is not to make good and fair food, but to earn money.

Greenwashing is then lurking. The old values of producing food as efficiently and cheaply as possible, at the expense of ecological values and the welfare of humans and animals, will remain intact. While that attitude has caused the problems in our current food system. In addition, because of their size and power, multinationals can flout or even dictate rules, with their armies of lobbyists and tax specialists who exert such pressure on politics. ”

4. The cultivated burger of € 250,000

Cellular agriculture, or cultured meat, was released from the lab in 2013. Maastricht professor and Mosa Meat founder Mark Post presented the first hamburger made by growing a few animal cells into a real piece of meat, without having to slaughter an animal.

There would be no difference in taste, texture and nutritional value. All the more so in terms of greenhouse gas emissions and land and water use; according to Mosa Meat, it is less than one-twentieth that of a traditional piece of meat. Antibiotics and (growth) hormones are also unnecessary. The cells were previously grown in fetal calf blood from a slaughtered, pregnant cow, but there is now a vegetable alternative.

Although the first culture burger cost 250,000 euros, it should soon be cheaper than a conventional one. Mosa Meat hopes to have its first burger in the supermarket within a few years with a starting price of 9 euros each. After that, production has to go up quickly and the price down.

Mosa Meat’s main competitors are Memphis Meats from Silicon Valley, Israel’s Future Meat Technologies and JUST from San Francisco. These producers are also on the verge of breaking through, but: cultured meat has yet to be approved all over the world as a new type of food. EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) does this for Europe. They check that it is safe, which can be a time consuming process.

The same thing was heard on social media when Unilever took over the Vegetarian Butcher; people feared the end of the idealism behind the company. But other than that, reactions in the media were predominantly positive: it was mainly seen as a great opportunity for a sustainable company to grow, just as founder Jaap Korteweg had envisioned. Wageningen researcher Pyett follows that reasoning. “We need the big players to get volume, so that meat substitutes become cheaper and accessible to more people. They know how to make products attractive to the general public through a budget for customer research, marketing and brand awareness. ”

5. Gene technology

A burger that really tastes like meat and even ‘bleeds’ in the pan, that’s what Impossible Foods, one of the leaders in the world market for meat substitutes, promises. The protein leghemoglobin from the roots of the soybean plant, which is almost identical to the protein myoglobin, which you find in meat, provides this. But in order to get enough of that special protein, you’d have to pull tons of soybean plant roots out of the soil, leading to soil erosion and the release of stored carbon. That is why Impossible Foods has developed a yeast with gene technology that produces leghemoglobin during fermentation.

The products of the American company are popular with consumers in Asia and the US. Impossible Foods also wants to enter the European market and requested permission from EFSA at the end of last year. The EU is reluctant to allow crops to which gene technology has been applied, the technique whereby an organism’s DNA is modified in such a way that it acquires properties that it does not naturally have. Although in the Netherlands you can find genetically modified soy, corn and rapeseed in the supermarket, and GM is used in the production of non-organic animal feed and medicines.

According to The New York Times 90 percent of US scientists believe that eating genetically modified crops (GMOs) is not unsafe for health; a tour of some scientists from Wageningen University confirms this picture. This does not alter the fact that there are other possible risks, such as that GM seed drifts over to fields with non-GM crops, damage to biodiversity, concentration of power around a few companies that patent GM crops and uncertainty about the consequences for humans and nature in the longer term. In his NRC column, professor of nutritional science Martijn Katan (VU) called the « invention » of Impossible Foods « mouth-watering science ». Whether EFSA approves Impossible Foods is still unclear.

Nestlé: Acquisition of Aimmune Therapeutics – Equity Research (Independent Research) | Stocks of the day – Insurance for Pets

Frankfurt ( – Nestlé stock analysis by analyst Lars Lusebrink from Independent Research:

Lars Lusebrink, an analyst at Independent Research, confirms his investment rating for the shares of the food company Nestlé S.A. in a current stock analysis. (ISIN: CH0038863350, WKN: A0Q4DC, ticker symbol: NESR, SIX Swiss Ex: NESN, Nasdaq OTC symbol: NSRGF).

Nestlé has signed a definitive agreement to take over Aimmune Therapeutics, in which the Swiss food company already holds around 25.6%. The biotech company Aimmune (product sales in the first half of 2020: USD 0.6 million) develops and markets therapies for the treatment of life-threatening food allergies. Aimmune’s drug Palforzia was the first and so far only drug to receive FDA approval in late January 2020 for the treatment of peanut allergies, including anaphylaxis, in children aged 4 to 17 years.

Nestlé is offering $ 34.50 per Aimmune share in cash, which is a high premium of 174% compared to the closing price on 08/28. (USD 12.60), but only around 10% above the Aimmune share price when Palforzia was approved (January 31). The purchase price for the outstanding 74.4% amounts to around USD 2.1 billion, which is to be financed through existing liquid funds (as of June 30, 2020: CHF 3.5 billion).

Nestlé manager Behar sees blockbuster potential at Palforzia in five to six years (annual sales:> USD 1 billion; Bloomberg consensus 2025: USD 906 million). The transaction, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2020, should make a positive contribution to earnings from 2022/2023. Lusebrink considers the complete takeover to be plausible and strategically sensible in view of the high sales potential of Palforzia, the favorable time (significant price decline since market approval) and the strengthening of the Nestlé Health Science portfolio.

Lars Lusebrink, an analyst at Independent Research, confirms his hold recommendation for Nestlé shares. The price target will remain at CHF 115. (Analysis from 02.09.2020)

New regulation of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture: Not only dog owners shake their heads about the « forced walk » – Insurance for Pets

(bim). Federal Minister Julia Klöckner (47, CDU) has discovered animal welfare for herself. However, not – as one might suspect from her Agriculture and Nutrition department – for farm animals, but above all for dogs. They should be kept more appropriate to the species.
The regulation aims to include Torture breeding and the presentation of such misbred four-legged friends in animal shows are avoided. An advance that is commendable. The highlight, however, is the « forced walk »: « A dog should be allowed to run outside at least twice a day for a total of at least one hour ». For most dog owners this is a matter of course, which does not have to be specified by Julia Klöckner.
Herd guard dogs, which are supposed to protect grazing animals from the wolf, are « robbed » of their shelters, if they exist. This is because these are no longer necessary if there is adequate protection « against adverse weather conditions ».
These advances by the Agriculture Minister are all the more astonishing since the anesthesia-free boar piglet castration, which should be abolished in 2018, is still allowed until the end of this year at the instigation of the Bundestag majority of the CDU, CSU and SPD. It had taken many years until the – anesthesia-free – beak shortening against feather pecking in chickens was banned in early 2017. « Amputations with which farm animals are trimmed to the housing systems that do not meet their needs », as the working group for species-appropriate farm animal husbandry sums it up.
More animal welfare for farm animals
After all: The latest news came that the Minister of Agriculture is now finally campaigning for more animal welfare for farm animals, including due to larger stables and more exercise. For this purpose, 300 million euros are to be made available in the federal government’s economic stimulus program, which can be invested in animal welfare stalls in 2020 and 2021. In addition, the building law is to be changed so that barn conversions, with which more space and better conditions are provided, can be implemented for farmers without great (bureaucratic) effort in the future. Criteria for the keeping of pigs have already been developed, and further livestock species are to meet, the working groups for the animal welfare criteria for cattle and poultry.

In the new « Animal Welfare Dog Ordinance », meanwhile, the « compulsory dog walk » is not only causing head shaking among dog owners. Wrongly, as Ministry spokesman Mathias Paul thinks.
The passage that dogs need sufficient exercise has already existed before, but this has only been specified. The new regulations primarily affect commercial dog ownership. With the passage on keeping guard dogs, one reacts to the current events with the resettlement of the wolf. The revision of the regulation, which lasted over a year, was a demand of the countries, which also have to implement these requirements, including controls and the imposition of fines. The regulation should give the authorities more legal certainty and better handling.
Background of the regulation: « The dog is one of the most popular pets in Germany. Incidentally, the number of pets bought by private households has risen especially in the previous high phase of the Corona. The correct handling of pets, the knowledge about them, is important, » it says there. And further: “Pets are not cuddly toys – their needs must be taken into account. It is important to ensure that dogs are kept in a species-appropriate manner. For example, that they get enough exercise and are not left alone for too long. We are now adapting the requirements for their posture to recommendations from experts.  »

The changes to the regulation essentially include the following aspects:

  • An exhibition ban for dogs that have torture breeding traits: The exhibition ban is intended to remove the breeding incentive to exhibit dogs with tortured breeding characteristics. At the same time, it should be prevented that the demand for these dogs increases. In addition, the exhibition ban is easier to monitor for the authorities, since the animals are actually visible. A difficult prognosis with regard to the characteristics of the offspring is not applicable.
The amendment prohibits dogs with hereditary pain and damage from being exhibited or from organizing exhibitions with these dogs. This includes that hereditary parts of the body or organs are missing or unsuitable or remodeled for the appropriate use and that this causes pain, suffering or damage, behavioral disorders associated with suffering, any kind-appropriate contact with conspecifics themselves or a conspecific to pain or avoidable ailments or leads to damage or the posture is only possible with pain or avoidable suffering or leads to damage.
  • A tightening of the requirements for dog breeding: In commercial dog breeding, for example, one carer may look after a maximum of three litters at the same time. In addition, a minimum of four hours is given for daily handling of the puppies. This applies to both commercial and private breeding of dogs.
  • Special regulations for guard dogs: Special regulations are now being made for the special conditions when using and training herd guard dogs, especially because of the resettlement of wolves in Germany. So is i.a. clarified that it is not necessary to have a shelter when using herd guard dogs if another adequate protection against adverse weather influences is available.
  • In order to avoid inadequate keeping conditions, the applicable requirements for keeping dogs are specified. Keeping dogs tethered (so-called « chain dogs », not leashes) is generally prohibited. It is only permitted in the context of working dogs under certain conditions.
The existing regulations on the required outdoor exercise will be specified in terms of duration and frequency. According to this, a dog should be allowed to exercise outside of a kennel at least twice a day for a total of at least one hour (e.g. walk, exercise in the garden, etc.). This is to ensure that dogs are given sufficient exercise and contact with environmental stimuli in the future. As stipulated in federalism, implementation lies with the federal states.
  • Change of the animal protection transport regulation: The transport time for transporting farm animals (within Germany) is limited to four and a half hours, if it is not ensured that at any time during the transport, in the area in which the animals are during the transport, a temperature of no more than 30 Degrees Celsius prevail.

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture is currently evaluating the comments received from the federal states and associations. This is followed by a hearing of the Animal Welfare Commission, the EU notification and the Federal Council procedure. The announcement is planned for the first quarter of 2021.

This is what the German Animal Welfare Association says
From the point of view of animal welfare, further regulations to protect all pets are absolutely necessary. The enactment of a pet protection ordinance could close existing gaps in the law and regulate the keeping, identification, registration, breeding and trade of pet animals effectively and comprehensively in a uniform manner. A revision of the animal welfare dog ordinance currently valid in Germany is to be welcomed and in many points a step in the right direction, but it does not go far enough. What is missing from the point of view of animal rights activists: Proof of competence before purchasing a dog (prevention, prevention of spontaneous purchases), an identification and registration obligation and more detailed information on the education / training of dogs.
This is what the Association for the German Canine Industry (VDH) says
It is imperative to seek the advice of expert advisors and the VDH’s scientific advisory board on some points. The VDH calls for improvements, including a definition of requirements for group keeping of dogs, lowering of the care key for commercial dog breeding, specification of the requirements for the whelping box and the puppy run as well as a prohibition of keeping dogs tethered.

Doggie is expensive in Germany! – Insurance for Pets

Are you planning to move to Germany with your beloved pet or adopt a friendly Teutonic pooch? Between taxes, insurance, compulsory outings … follow the guide to find out all about what that implies!

Steps to follow before moving

When expatriating, your pooch requires a good dose of organization and consideration. There are indeed many elements to assess before moving. First, you need to check that your dog is insured and in possession of a pet passport, or take the necessary steps if necessary. Yes, you read that right ! This is the « Heimtierausweis ». This document is essential so that the four-legged family member can travel from one country of the European Union to another. Every dog entering German territory must also be vaccinated against rabies.

In addition, when you arrive in Germany, in addition to declaring all members of your family during the « Anmeldung » (registration in town hall), you must absolutely declare your dog to the town hall of the place of residence. . It is also compulsory to be in possession of a « Hundemarke », the license for keeping dogs in Germany.

A « Hundehaftpflichtversicherung », meaning dog liability insurance and « Hundekrankenversicherung », dog health insurance, may also be required according to the Länder. Find out when you arrive at the town hall!

Dog tax: an important part of your budget

In Germany, anyone who owns a dog as a pet must pay tax on the pet, which can range from € 5 to € 200 per dog per year, depending on the state. For example, its amount is € 90 per year in Frankfurt and Hamburg, € 100 in Munich and € 800 for fighting dogs, € 108 in Heidelberg and Mannheim and € 156 in Cologne! This tax is applicable in all cases: it does not matter if the dog was imported from another country or if the dog was adopted or purchased locally. The tax varies depending on the dog’s weight and size, as well as where they live, ie the tax on dogs is higher in the city than in the countryside.

If owning a dog comes at a cost, owning two or more is only more expensive, especially when you know that the dog tax is higher for the number of dogs you have. For example, the first dog costs in Berlin 120 € and the second 180 € per year!

But the dog tax in Germany is not new. It has a long history dating back to the 15th century when their owners had to pay the « Hundekorn », the ancestor of the tax that we know today. Over time, this tradition has continued and owners in 2020 will not be able to deviate from the rule or face being forced to pay a fine. In France, a tax on dogs also existed, it was put in place in 1885 but in 1971 it was abolished.

In 2020, mandatory outings for owners?

But that’s not all ! To ensure a better quality of life for dogs, the German government recently decided that dog owners should walk them twice a day for at least an hour. German Agriculture Minister Julia Klöckner’s bill, which aims to protect dogs, is not unanimous among owners, however. If this law comes into effect, keeping your dog on a leash or chain for an extended period should also soon be banned. By way of comparison, in France it is compulsory to keep your dog on a leash or even have him wear a muzzle depending on the breed, the dangerousness and in certain places.

But what wouldn’t we do for our faithful furry companions?

Pairi Daiza zoological park, a benchmark in the field – Insurance for Pets

It is a little well-hidden treasure that few visitors have the privilege of observing: two baby red pandas of a month and a half that make the happiness of their caretakers. « The female can move them from place to place, you really have to be there at the right time to see them », says one of them. With nearly 7,000 animals, and more than 2 million visitors last year, the Pairi Daiza zoological park is a benchmark. Its 75 hectares with multiple universes are a feast for the eyes.

Due to the health crisis, the park opened two months late. Managers had to rethink activities and attendance. Today, activities such as the essential elephant bath are no longer indicated on the visitors’ program. « It is to avoid that there are too many people who come to gather here, and that we try to keep a maximum distance between the visitors », explains a healer.

Animals suffer in hell just for the appetite – Insurance for Pets

In a heat wave, you are a hero if you smash a car window with a dog in it. But we are only too happy to look away from all those animals trapped in those sweltering trucks

In the last heat wave period, a truck with 195 pigs caught fire on the A50 near Heelsum. The pigs were crammed full of stress and fear in the heat in the truck headed for the slaughterhouse. The fire brigade came, put out the fire and sprayed them all. That way they still had some cooling off. Four pigs died and another ten pigs were put out of their misery by a veterinarian. The remaining « rescued » 181 pigs suffered a little longer. With the help of a man with a clapper in his hand, they were chased from the livestock truck through a footbridge into another transport truck. A smiling pig stood on the outside of the wagon, as if they were happily continuing their vacation. But the reality was different: they were transported to the slaughterhouse where they had to wait for hours, packed full of stress and fear in the heat for their turn…. Such a happy pig was also depicted at the slaughterhouse. The pigs did not know, but their hell could still be worse … With shouting, kicking and beating with bangs and paddles they were driven into the slaughterhouse by men in blue overalls and with much pain and stress, much too slowly through CO2. gassing to be murdered.

The life of these pigs has been a great suffering from birth. As sensitive intelligent individuals, each with their own character, preferences and friendships, they were locked up with very little room to move in a stuffy, smelly stable. They were born to a mother who had been forcibly conceived and trapped between two bars and could not give them love. The brothers and sisters who were unable to keep up were beaten to death by the farmer. Bizarrely, they were still somewhat « lucky » because hell stopped for them. These pigs, just like humans, could experience pain, stress, fear, sadness, but also joy. But in the animal industry there is no place for joy, the animal is stripped of all its dignity and treated as a product without a soul.

There was also the news that a train carrying passengers stood still for an hour in the heat. The people had a hard time in the heat. But no word about all those animals that were crammed together in trucks in this heat wave and transported to the slaughterhouse. In a heat wave, you are a hero if you smash a car window with a dog in it. But we are only too happy to look away from all those animals trapped in those sweltering trucks. At most, the transporter risks a fine if too many animals have died en route. If we wanted to save these animals, we would be stopped and dismissed as extreme and radical animal activists. People you should be afraid of.

However, it is extreme how we let animals go through hell for a tasty appetite and give them a life with mainly suffering. According to the Animals Act, animals have an intrinsic value. Which means that animals are sentient beings, with their own value and interests that we have to take into account. However, in the animal industry, the intrinsic value of the animal is not taken into account in any way. According to the same law, you must not harm or mistreat an animal in its welfare without reasonable purpose. But this law is constantly being flouted by government, farmers and consumers. Causing so much suffering for just a short moment of appetite is not a reasonable goal. And certainly not now that there is an unrelenting flow of delicious plant-based alternatives on the market.

It is incomprehensible that there will be no tribunal for this abnormally great suffering that people without any valid excuse inflict every year over 600 million individuals here in the Netherlands. It’s embarrassing that we have a government that actually encourages these atrocities and has a toilet roll treated even more gently than an animal. This greatest form of discrimination, namely speciesism (the discrimination between beings on the basis of their kind) is very self-centered. Whether it is a human, a dog, a cow, a pig, a chicken, a fish or a cat, they all want to live and not suffer. So don’t let other animals suffer any longer for your appetite. Stop this form of discrimination.

Climbers Groupama-FDJ cannot miss pets; Gaudu’s dog follows Tour – Insurance for Pets

There seems to be a secret behind the strong climbing team of Groupama-FDJ; Thibaut Pinot, David Gaudu, Sebastien Reichenbach and Valentin Madouas are all great animal lovers. With the 23-year-old Gaudu, the love for his husky dog Houna even goes so far that his parents follow the Tour with the faithful four-legged friend.

Kopman Pinot came with a striking feel-good message on his Instagram. French Hope, like Gaudu, owns a husky dog, but said goodbye to its goats via the social media platform. « Goodbye girls, hello Tour de France! » It therefore seems that the goats have not been admitted to the Tour bubble of thirty people at Groupama-FDJ.

Foreman Gaudu cannot even do without his dog for three weeks. The parents of the 23-year-old climber travel after the circus for three weeks, with dog Houna in their presence. « Houna has a special place in David’s heart, » Father Francoise told FranceBleu. The other climbers Reichenbach and Madouas also show their love for animals on Instagram. Reichenbach has his cat as a profile picture, while Madouas proudly poses with four new puppies. If the love for their leader Pinot is just as great as for their animals, the French formation should be fine. (photo: Instagram Thibaut Pinot)

Animal welfare: Animal welfare association BMT cares for around 5,000 animals in Germany, in Hamburg there were around 1,300 in 2018 – Insurance for Pets

+++ Ten animal shelters nationwide +++ VOX moderator Frank Weber is the animal shelter manager in Hamburg +++ a particularly low administration rate of 5 percent

Hamburg, August 26, 2020. BMT – that has stood for the federal government against the abuse of animals since 1922. The registered association looked after almost 5,000 pets in ten animal shelters across Germany in the 2018 financial year, including 1,981 dogs, 1,797 cats and 1,049 small animals.

The full-time and part-time employees take care of the abandoned, abandoned or abused animals and are politically committed to animal rights. The fact that, in addition to home and medical care, self-help projects in Hungary and Romania can also be supported by the BMT is due not least to the above-average administrative rate of around 5 percent that the BMT has been able to show for its donation income for years. The BMT is financed to around 90 percent from donations and inheritances.

The BMT homes see themselves as a new home for animals – with small, family-run houses. The Franziskus animal shelter in Hamburg, which belongs to the BMT, has been managed by Frank Weber since 2004. The 53-year-old animal rights activist moderates a. a. the VOX format “hundkatzemaus” and campaigns not only for his pets, but also against animal experiments, wild animals in the circus or for the protection of foreign animals. In addition to TV appearances, Frank Weber writes in magazine columns, including a. in the BMT magazine “The Right of Animals” and publicly fights against animal abuse.

The Franziskus-Tierheim is a specialty within the BMT with its attached wildlife station. Accident or orphaned wild animals are brought to the Franziskus animal shelter every day. In 2018 more than 700 wild animals were taken in, raised, cared for and released back into the wild. In the animal shelter, there are two specially developed and equipped rooms as well as 16 large and several small aviaries available for the professional care of the wild animals. For raccoons that can no longer be released into the wild, there is a separate spacious enclosure on the site.

“The well-being of the animals is just as important to me as the quick help for overburdened pet owners. Because a life without our animal roommates would be so much poorer, which is why they have the right to a good life and we have a duty to stand up for them – wherever we can, ”says Frank Weber, head of the BMT -Franziskus shelter in Hamburg-Stellingen. In 2019, his animal shelter took in and looked after almost 600 animals from Germany, Spain, Romania and Hungary, and found a new home for almost as many animals in Hamburg and the surrounding area.

Frank Weber will be happy to give you expert interviews.

About the Franziskus animal shelter:
The concept of the Franziskus animal shelter is based on the fact that an animal shelter should be a meeting place for people who love animals. Many people still think that an animal shelter is a dark, gloomy place in which the misery of animals is managed. The Franziskus animal shelter wants to dispel this prejudice and show that an animal shelter is a very suitable place to bring people closer to the responsible handling of animals and to encourage them to do so. When designing the animal shelter, special attention was therefore paid to making the rooms as bright, friendly and appealing as possible. Outside areas are connected to all cat rooms, which allow the animals to make themselves comfortable in the sun. In order to give a small impression of the diversity of the animal world, there are several aquariums in the communication area. An essential part of the concept is the Pfötchencafé, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the outdoor cat aviaries, the tortoise enclosure and the wildlife station. Smaller events on the subject of « animals » take place here, visitors to the animal shelter can make themselves comfortable, and volunteers and employees meet there regularly.

Some pet owners spend more than $ 2,000 a year on their dogs – Insurance for Pets

Owning a dog can take a huge chunk of your budget – as some new pandemic dog parents are finding out.

Springfield, Oregon behavior specialist Angel Matthews was one of many Americans to bring home a puppy this spring, as it was sheltering in place and working remotely to stop the spread of the coronavirus – or, in Matthews’ case, getting time off – has given many people who would otherwise be away from work all day the chance to take care of pets at home.

But her coonhound / chow Cookie mix was more expensive than expected: sterilization and vaccinations alone cost over $ 700, she told MarketWatch. “The prices are considerably higher because of the pandemic,” she said, perhaps because vets are seeing a boom in business. Still, she thinks Cookie’s health and camaraderie are priceless. « I have a great dog by my side, » she said. And as she explained previously, « We needed each other in this crazy mess. »

Read more:« We needed each other in this crazy mess. » Is the pandemic the right time to save a dog?

Matthews is not alone: Animal rescues and shelters have seen an increase in the number of people who have taken in and adopted dogs and cats during the pandemic. The Los Angeles Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals told the Washington Post that adoptions were double their usual rate at the end of June, with 10 to 13 per day. On the East Coast, one in four people who had started feeding dogs at Animal Care Centers in New York “temporarily” at the start of the pandemic had adopted them permanently by the end of June; Usually, only one in 10 chooses to make their foster home a permanent home. The New York ACC told MarketWatch in March it had received more than 5,000 pet requests in just a few weeks.

But what new pet parents might not realize is how much it takes to scratch to keep a puppy. The annual cost can range from $ 650 to $ 2,115, on average, according to the new report released Wednesday on National Dog Day. This comes down to $ 54 to $ 176 per month.

Still, nearly half of pet parents (47%) in the new survey admitted they spent nearly $ 3,400 on their dogs each year. This is probably because most of the dog owners in the survey (58%) said they still don’t have a designated budget for their four-legged friend, so it’s easy for the expenses to add up. .

These costs include food ($ 200 to $ 1,000 per year, according to data from, routine vet visits ($ 210), flea and tick prevention (up to $ 200) and poop bags (up to $ 60). And that doesn’t include extra charges like emergency vet bills (which can run up to $ 1,500 per year or more), dog training ($ 90 per session), and pet insurance (up to $ 1,500 per session). ‘at $ 1,800 per year).

And bringing home a pandemic puppy, or owning a dog for the first time, comes with its own bundle of bills, notes, like adoption fees ($ 50 to $ 500, well that this sometimes includes neutering or neutering the puppy); vaccinations ($ 75 to $ 100); a case ($ 30 to $ 150); and puppy training mat ($ 10 to $ 50).

There is clearly a wide range of expenses for a pet, which can depend on the size and breed of the dog, as well as its own lifestyle. (Like the people who spend thousands of dollars on puppy janitorial services to find the perfect dog, for example.) Indeed, just under a third of dog owners surveyed told that they budgeted $ 100 or less on pet expenses for their puppy each month, and the more budget-conscious survey participants were able to keep their overall costs under $ 1,000 per year, using hacks like making their own pet toys or switching to cheaper dog food.

But many people have a weakness for worshiping man’s best friend. The American Pet Products Association has reported a steady increase in what people spend on their dogs over the past few years. Americans lost $ 95.7 billion on their pets in 2019, including $ 36.9 billion in food and treats. The APPA predicts that people will spend another $ 99 billion on their dogs this year, even as the pandemic puts a damper on many people’s budgets as millions of Americans remain out of work. Indeed, even though Gen X pet owners in particular have told APPA they are concerned about the expense of pet ownership during COVID-19, a higher percentage High of them also reported spending more money on their pet over the past month. .

surprised by a breeder, two individuals armed with knives flee in the Yonne – Insurance for Pets

The owner of the horse was alerted overnight. After having struck the animal, the two individuals fled.

Two individuals armed with knives were surprised by a breeder attacking his horse in Montholon (Yonne), on the night of Monday 24 to Tuesday 25 August, reports France Bleu Auxerre.

The owner of the horse was alerted during the night by the barking of his dog. The two individuals fled after striking the horse several times. Fortunately, the injuries are superficial.

The Yonne gendarmerie calls on horse owners to be vigilant. Several similar attacks have taken place since February. A horse in Moselle, another in Vendée, a mare in Puy-de-Dôme, a filly in the Aisne and a pony in the Somme were notably killed.

The French Equestrian Federation announced last week that « in the face of the series of acts of cruelty towards equines throughout the country », she was acting as a civil party alongside the owners of horses, ponies and donkeys who have been killed or mutilated in recent months. Investigators are not ruling out any leads, including the satanic ritual thesis.

Insect on cow menu may cause less emissions – Insurance for Pets

A cow is by nature a herbivore and yet there may be animal products on its menu in the near future. Adding proteins from farmed insects to their concentrates could reduce nitrogen emissions from dairy farming. That would be a way out of the heated debate about animal feed, Trouw writes.

Scientists as well as animal feed manufacturers are looking for ways to provide cows with sufficient protein for high milk production, without this being accompanied by high nitrogen emissions. For example, the provinces of Gelderland and Overijssel, together with the EU, are granting several tons of subsidies to a study by seven parties, including animal feed producer Agruniek, into an animal feed that leads to less CO2 and nitrogen emissions. In addition, alternative protein sources for the concentrate are sought.

Buffalo Beetle

A similar study is also starting at Wageningen University. With a subsidy from the Dutch Organization for Scientific Research, the university is investigating whether proteins from the skeleton of the buffalo beetle can serve as an ingredient for concentrates for cows. Researchers suspect that this way a cow emits less nitrogen than with the current soy-based feed.

Voorburgs Dagblad | Litter is a great danger to animals – Insurance for Pets

The enormous amount of litter in Leidschendam-Voorburg creates danger for animals. The consequences of a small piece of plastic or a can in nature are sometimes incalculable. Animals swallow plastic, get trapped or injure themselves. Animal ambulance The Hague helps several victims every day and calls on: think before throwing your waste on the street …..

In one day, the animal ambulance sometimes frees up to three victims from fishing tools. Waterfowl all too often get caught in hooks, floats and lines left behind. But plastic rings, for example from chewing gum pots, can also cause death. Anouk Korporaal of the Animal Ambulance The Hague: “I don’t believe that people consciously throw waste on the street to hurt animals. The consequences are simply not well thought out. There are barbs on the plastic rings of chewing gum jars, making them impossible to shake off. Eating with a plastic ring around your head and beak is not possible, so the ducks slowly starve to death. All because of such a small, stupid ring. ”

Many animals get in trouble because of empty cans thrown on the street. This applies not only to wild animals, but also to pets. Anouk Korporaal: “One of the most poignant situations I have experienced is the story of boy Ken, who walked around for days with his head in a can. He wanted to get the last bit of food out of the can. He couldn’t see, hear, smell, and breathe properly for days. His ears and neck had been deeply injured from the sharp edges and his face was smearing. He had to fight for his life. Fortunately he has recovered completely « .

New rules for dog owners: you need to know now – Insurance for Pets

Updated on August 24, 2020, 9:22 am

The Ministry of Agriculture is planning a new law for dog owners. It is intended to guarantee dogs sufficient exercise and care in the future and to enact stricter rules for animal transports and dog breeders. The German Animal Welfare Association welcomes the idea – but there are also questions.

You can find more panorama topics here

Federal Minister of Agriculture Julia Klöckner (CDU) has a heart for animals. Above all dogs have done it to her at the moment. On Monday, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture announced that it wanted to pass a new draft law on keeping dogs. Among other things, the regulation is intended to oblige masters in the future to allow their animals to exercise at least twice a day for at least one hour.

A Gassigeh Law for Dogs? Not quite, says Kathrin Umlauf, pet advisor at the German Animal Welfare Association.

« The regulation is not an all-round carefree dog protection package, but it is a step in the right direction. In addition, it does not refer to walking for the dog, but to the exercise twice a day for at least an hour. » That could also be the outlet in your own garden. This requirement should not be a problem for dog owners. « The spout itself was already recorded, expressed only in a very vague way (with « sufficient », note d. Red.). By making it more specific, the veterinary office can take better action in animal welfare cases, « says Umlauf.

Deal with the attitude before buying a dog

It is not new that politicians keep dealing with keeping pets. Many dog owners are blinded by the illusion of the eternal, sweet puppy – and months later are hopelessly overwhelmed. A kind of « driver’s license » and control for dog owners could prevent that.

Umlauf also knows: « Experience shows that a large part of the animal welfare problems that arise when dealing with dogs result from a lack of expertise in rearing and keeping. » If it were up to her, every owner should have the necessary knowledge and skills (§ 2 Animal Welfare Act, note d. Red.) have to provide evidence in the form of a proficiency test. She adds: « We would like that for every pet, not just for dogs. Owners are often overwhelmed because they haven’t informed themselves well beforehand. In the end, the animal is then handed over to an animal shelter. Expertise can prevent this. «

Auslauf-Gesetz a step in the right direction

From the point of view of the German Animal Welfare Association, Klöckner’s draft law is a step in the right direction. Above all, the specification of the exercise requirements, the requirements for group housing as well as the keeping when breeding dogs and keeping herd guard dogs is an important contribution to animal welfare-compliant housing. In addition, the regulation makes checking the attitude easier. « We also expressly support the prohibition of tethering dogs and the exhibition prohibition for dogs whose body parts or organs have been amputated, or for dogs that have tortured breeding traits, » says the Tierschutzbund speaker.

Draft law a problem for seniors and older dogs?

Exercise twice a day – sounds easy. And yet this week the first critics of the bill came forward. Seniors in particular could be the big losers from the regulation. Because older people who love their dogs and need against loneliness could no longer go for such long walks and thus fall into the grid of a bad dog owner. Umlauf from the German Animal Welfare Association gives the all-clear: « The draft speaks of ‘outdoor exercise outside of a kennel’ and that contact with the person who keeps, looks after or has to look after the dog is to be allowed several times a day be feasible for older people. «

The design also takes into account the health of the dog. A dog that can no longer travel long distances does not have to be forced to do so. « If older people have a very young dog with a great urge to move around, they should ensure that someone else does his laps with the dog. »

However, that is probably rarely the case or it was discussed in advance how the care of the dog is divided up within a family. According to Umlauf, very young dogs in older people who are not fit may not be optimally cared for in the long term.

Before buying an animal, mistress and master should be aware of what is necessary for species-appropriate keeping. According to the Animal Welfare Association, this includes an appropriate exercise area, where the dog not only fulfills its need for exercise, but also gathers new impressions and can meet fellow dogs. « Owners who are not able to provide their animal with sufficient exercise and activity should not buy a dog, » warns Umlauf.

Verification becomes a challenge

A check of all dog owners in Germany will not be possible despite the law. However, the German Animal Welfare Association assumes that the requirements are not a problem for most dog owners, since they give the dog more space than prescribed anyway. « It is mainly about animal welfare cases such as pure kennel keeping without any space, raising puppies only in the apartment or in the basement, » says Umlauf. « Should there be a control here, the responsible authorities now have a basis on which they can make decisions for the welfare of the animal. Especially in the area of kennel keeping. »

The dog bill is good – but it also needs to be improved

The German Animal Welfare Association welcomes the fact that Klöckner is committed to dogs. The draft law will be discussed in the Bundestag in the coming weeks and months. Trade associations should also be included in the discussion of the federal states. The German Animal Welfare Association also had ideas for improvement to strengthen dog rights.

« What has not yet been included in the Animal Welfare Dog Ordinance is, for example, an identification and registration requirement for dogs. » However, this would help to determine the owner of a runaway dog and to be able to reunite him with his darling quickly. In addition, the illegal puppy trade could be curbed by a Europe-wide obligation if it can be determined exactly where a dog was born and has since been in care.

Other topics that should also be on the agenda according to the Animal Welfare Association: « Proof of competence before buying a dog to prevent spontaneous purchases and more detailed information on the upbringing and training of dogs. »

About the expert: Dr. Kathrin Umlauf is an expert in keeping dogs. She works as a consultant for pets at the German Animal Welfare Association and knows what makes a species-appropriate dog keeping and what is important in the draft law.

a veterinarian who could only get by with « the rural » – Insurance for Pets

Estelle Blanchet, veterinarian in Mussidan, in the Dordogne, is still one of the few women to exercise this profession in the countryside, working with breeders. If she could, this mom of two would spend her time among the cows doing what is called « rural » vet jargon.

The vet must however run her practice in the city, created ten years ago, where she also treats pets. Because caring only for herds of cattle, goats or sheep is not profitable. A good part of her time, too much according to her, is devoted to administrative tasks, invoices… and also to customer complaints.

« We should charge almost double »

« The bill may be expensive, but we have driven 88 kilometers … He disputes the amount but there is more than 120 euros of travel. I understand that he is moaning, but we have driven an hour and a half. . When you really look at the cost of a veterinary employee with the charges, the car and the gasoline, you should be charging almost double « , she said to the magazine « 1:15 pm on Saturday » (replay).

« Fortunately there are the dogs and cats who help us to compensate a little for what we can lose with ‘the rural’. I don’t need to earn huge sums of money and as long as I get by , it’s okay with me… » specifies this enthusiast who had to invest 500,000 euros so that her practice could accommodate dogs and cats as well as farm animals.

NMV: Idiotic measures must be dropped, summary proceedings last hope – Insurance for Pets

At the end of last year, Minister Schouten was already warned by us that the feed measure / emergency act is a dead end. All possible guidelines were provided by all sector parties, in order to achieve a better elaboration together with the sector. And all these guidelines have been rejected. Today, during a meeting with the dairy working group, it turned out that there is no point in continuing to talk.

Anyone who does not want to hear should feel. The Dutch Dairy Farmers’ Union (NMV) no longer wishes to burden its members with idiotic measures, alternatives that no one can support anymore and is placing its last hope on the preliminary relief proceedings of Stichting Stikstof Claim.

Dairy working group

In the past two months, the NMV has worked in the dairy working group, together with LTO dairy farming, NAJK, DDB and Netwerk GRONDig, to develop and discuss a practical, feasible and affordable feed measure. There have been several discussions with LNV about this. At the start of this dairy working group, 3 steps are marked:

  • The feeding measure must be completely removed from the table
  • Make proposals for alternatives / improvements
  • Legally figuring out and challenging the feeding measure to the core

The dairy working group’s first attempt to get the measure off the table failed. As well as the 6 alternatives / improvements. This failed on the basis of legal tenability, bookability and not being able to count back on hexagon level.

Interview with veterinarians of the KNMvD and feed experts

The clock is now clicking. LNV eventually entered into talks with veterinarians of the KNMvD and feed experts. That which we have been warning for all the time has been confirmed once again, the feeding measure is a monstrosity, harms animal health and welfare. This is a no go. Subsequently, the Harbers / Geurts motion was passed. They ask for a calculation by the PBL of the proposals submitted by the dairy cattle group. In addition, the Stikstof Claim Foundation (SSC) asks for substantiation of the LNV feed measure and the matrix used in it.

Interim injunction from Stichting Stikstof Claim

This morning, during the consultation with the dairy cattle group, it became apparent once again that further consultation with LNV is pointless. The initiation of summary proceedings by SSC is always postponed because LNV is “still in talks with the sector”. And LNV does not provide any numerical substantiation, it does not provide anything at all. When discussions with the sector are getting in the way of SSC’s preliminary relief proceedings, it is not wise to speak further. The NMV sticks to the agreements made at the start of the dairy working group to go through all the steps. It is now time to give space to SSC’s preliminary relief proceedings. The alternative provided by the dairy working group is now far too far from what we can still explain to our members. The Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality has had 8 weeks to discuss alternatives in the sector and the time has now passed. From now on, the NMV (like the DDB) no longer supports the alternative of the dairy cattle working group and has therefore no longer joined the conversation with LNV this afternoon. NMV stops all talks.

Cones of shame? Maine orders restaurant waiters to put on face shields like dog collars in bizarre Covid-19 guidelines – Insurance for Pets

The state government of Maine is in the doghouse with residents after an order requiring restaurant staff to wear face shields upside down, attached to the collar – what netizens have dubbed ‘cones of shame’ more suitable for a pet.

The last « Covid-19 Prevention Checklist » released by Democratic Governor Janet Mills sets out a set of rules one can expect amid the pandemic – such as good hygiene and social distancing. But a directive for restaurants raised eyebrows, requiring waiters to wear collared face shields reminiscent of those affixed to dogs after medical intervention.

“Reception staff may only wear a face shield instead of a face shield if the shield is designed to be worn inverted, securing under the face (eg as a collar) and open at the top of the body. screen, with the shield extending over the eyes and sideways to the ears, «  say the guidelines.

Face shields open at the bottom, directing breathing downward, are not acceptable replacements for front desk staff face masks.

Americans should start wearing masks at home, says Dr Deborah Birx

While the rule only applies to those who refuse to wear a typical face mask, netizens have harassed the Mills administration over the outrageous directive, mocking the collared shields as degrading. « Cones of shame. »

« Let me guess, governor [Mills] is a democrat. Dog cones for the people. We call it the cone of shame in our house because my dog hates it. Imagine what people feel wearing this stupid thing ” one user said on Twitter.

Many assumed the news was a joke, perhaps thanks in part to a photographed viral image of a smiling waitress decked out in what appears to be a Coca Cola-themed lampshade. Although the photo is a fake, it has helped draw attention to the very real face mask rule, which has largely escaped the attention of the national media.

Other « Cones of shame » have made appearances elsewhere throughout the Covid-19 crisis, with netizens sharing examples of similar measures taken in other locations, including a restaurant in Paris with transparent body shields hanging from the ceiling. Maybe Maine diners should consider their options.

Maine has recorded a total of 4,253 coronavirus infections and 128 deaths, according to official data, placing it well below other northeastern states that have faced much more virulent outbreaks, such as New York and New York. Jersey. Despite the slower infection rate, the state has been under varying degrees of lockdown since March, following Mills’ initials « Stay healthy at home » order.

a new shocking video from the L214 association denounces the breeding conditions on a foie gras duck farm – Insurance for Pets

The association for the defense of animal condition speaks of the « worst breeding » ever. The Minister of Agriculture and Food announces having launched an on-site investigation and a forthcoming formal notice of the operation.

The animal rights association L214 reveals, Thursday, August 20, a new investigation. It concerns a breeding site for breeding ducks used for the foie gras sector in the South-West. The video was shot this month in Lichos, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, says the animal rights organization.

In this video, the ducks and the building that houses them appear to be abandoned and yet, says L214, the breeding is still functioning. The operation reached « peaks in horror », says Sébastien Arsac, co-founder of the association. He even speaks of « worst breeding » never seen : « We have as many dead ducks as we have living ducks. »

On the ground, you have between 15 and 20 centimeters of liquid excrement. It is a farm where maggots and rats proliferate.Sébastien Arsac, co-founder of L214to franceinfo

L214 points to the veterinary services of the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques which, according to the association, do not carry out sufficient checks. « The objectives for veterinary services are to check 1% of farms every year, which means that a farm, on average, is checked once every 100 years », says Sébastien Arsac.

The association for the defense of animals has lodged a complaint and demands the permanent closure of the site. It also calls for a general audit of the duck sector. « There had been a generalized audit on butcher’s slaughterhouses with the Minister of Agriculture at the time, Stéphane Le Foll, indicates Sébastien Arsac. We are asking that there also be an audit in this sector so that we can have a slightly more global view of the situation.  »

In a press release posted on Twitter on Thursday August 20, the Minister of Agriculture and Food, Julien Denormandie, announced that he had « conducted a full investigation of the state of the operation » who has already noticed « some of the breaches of the regulations in force ». The Minister also indicates that a « formal notice of the operation will be pronounced », which could lead to a suspension of activity.

Last December, the L214 association had already targeted a breeding of this type in Dordogne, in an agricultural high school, where thousands of ducklings were thrown alive in the trash cans. The departmental services had fined the establishment after a control confirming the accusations of activists of the animal cause. More recently, at the end of June 2020, the Ministry of Agriculture suspended the approval of the sheep chain of the slaughterhouse in Rodez (Aveyron) after a video of L214 filmed on the site.

Why Anti-Racists Should Be Vegans – Insurance for Pets

Standing up for justice should not be limited to a select group.

cc photo: Agata Nyga

With increasing amazement, I see how several anti-racism activists are ignoring the suffering of animals from factory farming. For example, Fati Benkaddour argues that « the constant broaching of ‘Islamic wrongs’ in the meat industry is motivated by Muslim or Jewish hatred. » Akwasi then went a step further by stating in his Parool interview that Golden retrievers are better represented in the House of Representatives than people of color. These kinds of statements show us the wicked blinders that fighters for justice can have. They recognize one injustice (racism), but ignore the other by reducing animal activists to racists and hobbyists. It begs me the question: if you really have an eye for the seriousness of one injustice, then you must understand that you shouldn’t downplay the other injustice?

The injustice is not downplayed
After all, that other injustice is undeniably great. Animals are widely confined, maimed, forced on a torturous diet, forced inseminated, separated from their families and gassed. In the Netherlands alone, an estimated 1.7 million animals are killed every day. It is a number so great that I can hardly imagine it being so. And yet this is the bizarre reality. Anyone who is aware of this realizes that this is too cruel to say. As far as I am concerned, the way we treat animals is downright criminal.

Why then the trivialization?
Why then the trivialization? Benkaddour’s opinion piece assumes that those who oppose the slaughter without anesthesia are mainly driven by hatred of Muslims or Jews. That view does not come out of nowhere. The PVV undeniably uses the sacrificial feast to be able to bash Muslims. A broader sympathy for animals can only be observed with Dion Graus. To conclude from this that Muslim or Jewish hatred is a major motivator for opponents of the sacrificial feast is reprehensible. There are plenty of animal activists who do not hold double standards and criticize both slaughter without stunning and factory farming. Sandra van de Werd was therefore rightly agitated to Benkaddour’s piece: « I am done being dismissed as a racist because I stand up for animals. »

Rapper Akwasi went a step further this week. He reduces the fight against the criminal treatment of animals by the Party for the Animals to the representation of golden retrievers. Now I know that Akwasi often makes provocative statements and that it is wise to let stupidity pass you by, but I cannot ignore this kind of madness. It shows an important and more common flaw in movements that fight for justice: the blinkers of a focus on just one kind of injustice.

Carol J. Adams book The Sexual Politics of Meat: A Feminist-Vegetarian Critical Theory show the problem well. In this book, Adams compares the oppression of women to that of animals. In doing so, she convincingly shows that the oppressive ways of thinking have connections. According to her, anyone who is able to reduce an animal to a thing is also the case with a woman. An idea for which there is a lot of evidence. Adams is rightly surprised that many recognize one injustice and trivialize the other injustice.

Adams’s insight that oppressive ways of thinking have connections and are reprehensible in whatever form is of course equally valid for reducing someone from color to inferior being. Philosopher Eva Meijer draws the only correct conclusion from this: “If you are an anti-racist and feminist, you should automatically be a vegan too. The processes of exclusion of women and non-white people are based on the same underlying structures as those of animals. ” So standing up for justice should not be limited to a select group, because then you close your eyes to other injustices.

Suppression of animals, women and people of color are all undesirable. This is why I stand up for women, animals and people of color. Benkaddour and Akwasi supporters would do well to do the same. Anti-racism activists, feminists and animal rights activists all fight against injustice, so let’s fight that fight together and without blinkers.

Small animals: Tips for keeping them appropriately – Insurance for Pets

Not only dogs and cats, but also guinea pigs and gerbils, rabbits, fish and birds have their animal needs as pets. We give tips for the correct keeping of small animals.

A pet not only makes children happy, it can also become a permanent member of the family for the grown-ups. We have put together tips for you on the right food, animal welfare and care so that guinea pigs and co. Feel comfortable with you.

We present these five small animal species in detail:

  • Guinea pig
  • Gerbils
  • Rabbits
  • Birds
  • fishes

Guinea pig

Guinea pigs are ideal for city apartments: they are quiet, do not disturb the neighbors and can be kept without the landlord’s permission. But guinea pigs also make demands on keeping and care. As clan animals, they must always be kept together at least in twos, or better still in threes, otherwise they suffer from loneliness. You like to move and need a lot of space. For two to three animals you should buy or build a cage with a base area of at least 1.50 by 0.75 meters.

In addition to a sleeping house, one or two feeders, drinking bottles or water bowls are part of the equipment. Cork tubes, roots and branches provide protection and security for the frightened rodents. Rough stones are suitable for sharpening claws, unsprayed fruit tree branches for gnawing. The teeth are constantly growing back and have to be worn down through gnawing. Chewing hay also keeps teeth short. Old bread is unsuitable; it often contains mold spores.

Guinea pigs are herbivores, in the wild they search for food all day. The animals should therefore always have hay available, which stimulates the intestinal activity, and also receive green fodder such as dandelions and meadow herbs, fruit and vegetables. A daily ration per animal, divided into two to three servings, could consist of a quarter of an apple, a small carrot, a piece of fennel and a large tuft of grass. Give little or no dry food, it is high in carbohydrates. Drinking water should always be available and changed daily.

Guinea Pig Grooming

If the guinea pigs have the opportunity to sharpen their claws (climbing opportunities, obstacles), they wear out naturally. If the claws get too long, they have to be cut. The first time you should let the vet or an experienced owner show you how to do it. Grooming does not play a role in common species such as smooth-haired or rosette guinea pigs. Guinea pigs should not be bathed. Have your teeth checked by the vet every three months if possible. If the teeth are worn too long and irregularly, they grow pointed into the mouth. That hurts, the animal can no longer eat properly and becomes emaciated.

Mongolian gerbils are usually kept as pets. The animals are active during the day and at night, like to climb and jump and are extremely afraid of water. Gerbils have to be kept at least in pairs. To get started, choose a same-sex couple, preferably littermates. If you keep a female and a male, you have to be prepared for a lot of offspring, so it’s best to castrate the bucks.

The right mouse cage

The cage for the gerbils should be bright but not in direct sunlight. In addition, the rodents cannot tolerate drafts and noise. Indispensable equipment for the cage or terrarium are sand baths, in which the animals wallow to remove moisture and glandular secretions from their fur. Ceramic flower bowls or candy jars are ideal for this, as the mice cannot dig the sand out of them so quickly. Objects made of plastic have no place in the gerbil shelter, the mice gnaw them off. Replace or sift the sand, preferably bird or chinchilla sand, at least every two days. In addition, the animals need a house to sleep or to hide, stones and branches to lay out corridors, material such as straw or hay to nest and wood or cardboard to gnaw.

Gerbils should be kept in a sufficiently large cage by at least two people. (Photo: CC0 / Pixabay / nidan)

Diet: This is what gerbils like to eat

The basic feed made from seeds is bought as a ready-made mixture. You can also offer hay, vegetables and animal protein (eggs, cheese) two to three times a week. The dry feed can be distributed in the litter, the animals look for it.

Never pull or pick up gerbils by the tail, it could tear off. In order not to frighten the mice, they can initially be taken out of the cage with a tube, for example from a kitchen towel. The mice secrete a secretion of sebum and fragrances via their scent or ventral glands on the abdomen. This is how gerbils mark their territory, their conspecifics and sometimes their owners. Humans can neither see nor smell it. It happens that this gland becomes inflamed, then it is worth going to the vet.

Rabbits love company. It is best to get at least two animals, preferably a female rabbit and a neutered bull or two females from the same litter. This prevents territorial and hierarchy battles. In addition to a sufficiently large enclosure, the animals need to run free in their home or in an outdoor enclosure every day. In cages that are too small, their muscles atrophy and they develop behavioral disorders (gnawing of the bars, constant scratching in the corner of the cage or even biting).

Every animal needs its own sleeping house as a shelter and hiding place. Since rabbits are cave dwellers, the enclosure must not be visible from all sides. Non-toxic branches to gnaw at, rhizomes to hide, flower bowls filled with sand provide variety in the cage. The equipment also includes two toilets with litter and heavy food and drinking bowls, for example made of earthenware.

Proper nutrition for rabbits

Good hay is the basis of nutrition and should always be available. In addition, the animals need fruit (apples, pears), vegetables (carrots, celery, broccoli) and green fodder (dandelions, parsley). The rabbit needs drinking water constantly, it has to be changed daily.

Rabbit teeth constantly grow back and have to be worn down by chewing on hard objects. The animals like to use unsprayed branches from fruit trees, willows and beeches, pieces of bark and roots. If the teeth are still too long, they will interfere with eating and the vet will have to shorten them. Healthy animals groom and clean themselves, they shouldn’t be bathed. When the hair is changing, you can remove shed hair with a rabbit brush. With good care and maintenance, the nails should be short and wear naturally. If this is not the case, have the veterinarian cut it.

The ornamental fish is a very popular pet in Germany. 85 million fish paddled in the home aquariums in 2011. The wide range and the magnificent colors of the fish often tempt you to make spontaneous purchases without having been adequately informed beforehand. Mistakes are made, for example, in the composition of species, water quality and feeding. Even the smallest disturbance in the biotope aquarium – and the fish die.

Fish in the aquarium – the right tank is what counts

The smaller the pelvis, the more difficult it is to create a stable balance. Fluctuations in temperature or excessive amounts of feed, for example, quickly affect plants and animals. To get started, you should therefore start with a 100-liter basin that is equipped with a filter system, lighting and heating. Aquariums need smooth, level surfaces on a stable base cabinet. Unevenness and the pressure on the glass can be leveled out with a foam pad. Water transmits sound and vibrations, so choose a location that is not constantly walked by. In addition, avoid exposure to the sun, as it allows the algae to grow. Before the fish can move in, the tank must be « retracted ». Under no circumstances should you simply put the animals in the pool before a stable equilibrium has been established. This takes about two to three weeks.

When designing the aquarium with stones, wood and plants, one is guided by the natural habitats of the fish. Hiding places and retreats should not be missing. For the oxygen supply and the biological balance, the tank should be adequately planted. The better the plants grow, the less the algae grow. Good lighting of the aquarium is particularly important. The water should be changed once a week. To do this, you renew about a third of the amount of water and make sure that the pH value, hardness and temperature are correct. The water quality can also be checked by taking a sample at a specialist retailer.

The right choice of fish

Schooling fish cannot be kept individually. Not only do you get scared and pale, but you get sick more quickly. The minimum for neons or guppies is about six to ten animals. Pair-forming fish such as cichlids are more difficult to keep than schooling fish. In general, one should make sure that the fish are roughly the same size, prefer the same water quality and temperature and similar food and do not hunt each other in nature.

Fish like to eat that

It is best to feed several times a day and only as much as the animals can eat away at a time. Too much feed spoils the water quality. When choosing the feed, one is guided by the fish species.

Birds as pets: canary and budgie

Canaries or budgies are usually kept as pets. The latter originally come from the grass steppes and forest areas of Australia, where they live in large schools. The wild form of the canary, the Canary Girlitz, is at home in the Canary Islands and is also a flock of birds. Both species of birds should therefore be kept at least in pairs. When choosing the animals from the breeder or dealer, pay attention to whether pairs have already been found and then buy both animals.

A generous cage

The birds need enough space to fly. Commercially available cages are often too small. Round cages are not suitable, the birds cannot orient themselves. A bright, draft-free place at table height on the wall is a perfect location. The room temperature should be as constant as possible between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius; birds do not like large fluctuations. Therefore, do not place the cage on the windowsill or close to the heater. The bottom of the cage should be covered with bird sand.

In addition, the birds need several feeding and watering places, bathing bowls or bathing houses, branches to sit on, selected toys and poles for hopping and climbing. Branches of unsprayed trees from nature are also suitable. Before you put them in the cage at different heights, you should let them dry well. The birds can get diarrhea from fresh twigs. There must be at least one hour of free flight per day. The birds also like a climbing tree in the room, which you can easily build yourself from a few larger branches.

The right bird seed

A commercial grain mix is sufficient as a basic feed. The food bowl must always be full, otherwise the birds could starve to death. Do not feed treats and fatty seeds more than once or twice a week. Fresh green fodder and fruit are also on the menu. Quickly remove leftovers from the cage so that the birds do not eat anything that is spoiled. Offer bird grit (small pieces of lime and mussels) in an extra bowl, this supports digestion. Birds need fresh water all the time.

Care tips for budgies and canaries

The annual change of plumage usually begins in the summer months and lasts up to eight weeks. The bird now needs more rest and a daily bath. It is also important to pay attention to a particularly balanced diet. Too long claws must be trimmed. If you are unsure, let the vet show you. You should also check whether rings are growing into the leg or constricting the foot.

Insurance for Pets

This could be our horoscope – Insurance for Pets

For several weeks now, the media have been inundating us with very anxiety-provoking news about the increasing number of cases. They hardly ever talk about the number of deaths or intensive care admissions, and for good reason, there are hardly any more. These cases, most of them asymptomatic, result mechanically from the fact that today we are testing massively. Obviously, if you multiply the tests, you multiply the number of positive cases, without this having any consequences whatsoever in terms of public health.

Because it is obvious that health measures such as confinement, the wearing of compulsory masks or restrictions on our constitutional rights can only be justified when the circumstances absolutely require it, when for example the disease would kill by the tens of thousands. every week, and that health care services would be overwhelmed to the point of no longer being able to fulfill their public health mission.

Only here we are, today we are far from it. The number of « cases » is exploding, but no one is dying from covid:

And the situation is comparable in Belgium:

Covid19, great plague or pretext for the establishment of a dictatorship?

We must face the facts, today the coercive measures and other freedom-killing laws still in force in most industrialized countries no longer find the slightest justification in terms of public health.

What if Australia foreshadows our own future?

In the European media, little is said about the development of the situation in Australia, except, once again, to mention a « record increase in the number of cases in the state of Victoria ». You will have noticed that here again, we are talking about cases, we are not talking about overwhelmed hospitals or deaths by the tens of thousands.

What exactly is the situation in Australia, in terms of the number of covid deaths compared to other industrialized countries?

You’re not dreaming, Australia is at the bottom of the graph, with, at the time of this writing, 14.86 deaths per million inhabitants compared to 465.87 for France and 857.23 for Belgium. It should also be noted that for Australia, which is located in the southern hemisphere, the epidemic did not really start until the heart of winter, that is at the beginning of July. There is nothing more normal, and nothing to prevent it.

However, it turns out that this country, and more particularly the state of Victoria, has taken it one step further towards a health dictatorship by declaring a state of disaster. In practice, this gives practically all the powers to the government, judge instead:

Complete lockdown, you can only leave your home within a radius of 5 km and only for reasons considered essential such as getting food, going to your doctor or walking the dog. Only one outing per day is authorized in this context, for one person per household.

Closure of schools, businesses deemed non-essential and non-essential businesses.

« Authorized » workers will be issued a special permit to be able to go to their place of work. Companies that issue such certificates for their employees when their business is deemed non-essential are liable to a fine of $ 99,132, and the worker who uses it to a fine of $ 19,826

Establishment of a curfew from 8 p.m. and until 5 a.m. the next day. The only trips authorized during the curfew are to get to the emergency room or to work (see previous point).

If you leave the home to engage in physical activity, this can only be done once a day and for no longer than an hour.

Wedding ceremonies are prohibited, funerals can only be done in the presence of a maximum of 10 people.

Police can now enter private property without a warrant « if they believe the rules have been violated »

In the press, Minister of Emergencies Lisa Neville explains that:

The decision to appeal to the powers was « not taken lightly, » Neville said on Aug. 2, but to help enforce the new curfew as well as « public order issues » such as oversight. crowds in supermarkets to prevent panic shopping, or to prevent protests. « For those who want to test the powers of the police, it puts them out of doubt, » she said. “Extraordinary powers for extraordinary times. «

Like that, it is said. It just makes you wonder what amazing times she’s talking about, except to think that it is precisely this new normal that would be extraordinary.

The final word

The establishment of a dictatorship under cover of an alleged health crisis in the state of Victoria, before extending it, no doubt, to all of Australia, should make us reflect on the real objectives pursued by our leaders, especially when they keep telling us about a « second wave », perfectly fantasized, which would impose the introduction of measures even more draconian than those we have known.

Dictatorship, but for your own good, eh.

« Fundamentalists », « enlightened » … When Eric Dupond-Moretti attacks the « ayatollahs of ecology » – Insurance for Pets

The Minister of Justice claims to be a « passionate » hunter and attacks certain environmentalists in the preface of a book by the president of the National Federation of Hunters to be published Tuesday.

« This book, the ayatollahs of ecology will use it to light the barbecue where they will cook their soybean steaks. » So says Eric Dupond-Moretti in the preface to the book by Willy Schraen, the president of the National Federation of Hunters (FNC), in bookstores Tuesday, August 18. In this text, written before his arrival at the Ministry of Justice and revealed by The JDD Sunday August 16, the former lawyer fully assumes his passion for hunting. « They want us to be ashamed of being a hunter, (…) to make us feel guilty for being who we are, because we are also our passion », writes the former tenor of the bars, himself passionate about hunting.

In the preface to this work entitled A hunter in the countryside, Eric Dupond-Moretti also criticizes the « extremism » and the « blind dogmatism » of those who see the hunters « like murderers », comparing them in turn to « illuminated » and « fundamentalists ».

When I kill a partridge, I am not ashamed. Eric Dupond-Moretti, Minister of Justicein the preface to the book « A hunter in the countryside »

This book, Eric Dupond-Moretti describes it as « little gem ». He thinks « that it is made so that the hunters raise their heads. Finally! »

Heavily criticized, this preface prompted the minister to explain himself. The new Minister of Justice wanted to remindyears a tweet, Sunday, « to have always been » a « defender of climate and nature ».

To believe Willy Schraen, at no time did the Minister of Justice ask him to remove his name from the preface. « The question did not arise for a second, assures the JDD the president of the National Federation of Hunters. Yes, he is Minister of Justice, but he remains Eric Dupond-Moretti, with his convictions and his clear way of saying things. «
